York Theatre Royal Present PETER PAN - A Summer Event For All The Family

This summer Pirates, Fairies and Mermaids will take over York Theatre Royal in a brand new adaptation of J M Barrie’s Peter Pan (29 Jul – 3 Sep).

Join Wendy, John and Michael Darling as they re-count their wonderful, action-packed adventures in Neverland. Stories of Lost Boys, Indians, Mermaids and Pirates unfold before your eyes in a magical land, free from grown-up rules.

York Theatre Royal has gained a reputation for its original and innovative approach to storytelling, in 2008 producing the now Olivier Award-winning production of The Railway Children, which is currently running for the second time at Waterloo Station, London. The theatre has continued to produce high quality family shows each summer. Last year saw Mike Kenny’s adaptation of The Wind in the Willows take over the theatre with a new stage configuration seating the audience around the action. This year York Theatre Royal returned to the In the Round configuration for its seven month Ensemble Season. It is this setting that Peter Pan will be brought to life for the whole family to enjoy.

Once again adapted by Mike Kenny and produced by the same creative team as The Railway Children and The Wind in the Willows, this enchanting tale of a boy who refused to grow up is given a new lease of life. As well as starring York Theatre Royal favourites Martin Barrass (The Wind in the Willows, The Crucible, My Family & Other Animals), Rob Pickavance (The Wind in the Willows, Homecoming, The Dumb Waiter), Cornelius McCarthy (To Kill a Mockingbird) and Andrina Carroll (The Railway Children, The Crucible) over 50 young people from York will take to the main stage.

Wendy, John and Michael will each be played by teams of three local children, who auditioned for the parts in early June. The Lost Boys, Indians, Mermaids and Fairies will also be performed by four groups of young people recruited from our strong youth theatre which will rotate throughout the run. This is a great chance to see a new adaptation of a classic story by an award-winning Yorkshire playwright and see York Theatre Royal’s main stage transformed into the magical world of Neverland. With the in the round seating the audience will be thrown into an adventure with the characters, making this the perfect summer activity for every member of the family.

Don’t miss out on your chance to see this stunning performance from an award-winning team at York Theatre Royal. Tickets can be booked through the box office on 01904 623568 or online at www.yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
Family tickets are also available and under 25s are just £7.
