New album – ‘The Sea’, out today

Melanie C catapults herself back onto the scene with this new eleven-track LP, ‘The Sea’, out today, on Melanie’s own Red Girl Records.

From opener and title track ‘The Sea’ – a downtempo pacifier, complete with crashing waves and a lulling string section – to the roughed up Alanis Morisette-esque ‘Beautiful Mind’, Melanie C evokes multiple musical identities with this impressive fifth album.

Poptastic new single ‘Think About It’, also out today, is a sure fire dance-floor hit, oozing with slicked-back sophistication, whereas ‘All About You’ is a soaring piano ballad, poised on a dramatic drum roll and was co-written by Guy Chambers, Lauren Christie and Chuck Harmony.

Elsewhere, there’s the potent ‘Weak’, a song with a positive, life-affirming message and the pulsating electronic statement that is ‘Stupid Game’. Other notable album highlights include the sincere, pared down ‘One By One’, the late 70s Supertramp worthy piano pop of ‘Get Out Of Here’ and epic finale ‘Enemy’.

In the past three years, Melanie has gone on the road with The Spice Girls for their acclaimed Reunion Tour, given birth to daughter Scarlet and made her theatrical debut, playing the part of Mrs Johnstone in West End hit Blood Brothers, for which she received an Olivier nomination for ‘Best Actress in a Musical’ and was shortlisted in the London Evening Standard Theatre awards in Milton Shulman’s ‘Outstanding Newcomer’ category.

Since going solo back in 1999, Melanie C has enjoyed 2 number 1 singles, 6 Top 10 singles and over 3 million album sales. But her success has not been confined to the UK. Her 2005 track ‘First Day of My Life’ charted at number 1 in five European countries and sold over 400,000 copies in Germany alone. Self-starter Melanie C launched her own label, Red Girl Records in 2004 and has so far released two albums – 2005’s ‘Beautiful Intentions’ and 2007’s ‘This Time’. ‘The Sea’, is the third album to be released on the label.
