DICK WHITTINGTON
NEW WIMBLEDON THEATRE - Fri 9 December 2011 – Sun 15 January 2012

Having recently announced the star casting of global gigastar Dame Edna Everage in her widely-anticipated pantomime debut, New Wimbledon Theatre is delighted to announce that actor Sam Attwater and television presenter Anna Williamson are to star alongside her in this year’s family pantomime Dick Whittington.

Dame Edna Everage
Dame Edna Everage will be starring as the Saviour of London in this year’s family pantomime spectacular Dick Whittington. Housewife, investigative journalist, social anthropologist, talk show host, children’s book illustrator, gigastar and all-round icon, Dame Edna will be swapping her luxury home in Sydney for SW19 and spending five weeks treading the boards (and possibly even flying above them) at the Home of London Pantomime this Christmas. No stranger to the stage, Dame Edna has starred in several of her own theatre productions including ‘Housewife, Superstar’, ‘A Night with Dame Edna’ and several Royal Variety Performances as well as her Tony Award winning production ‘Dame Edna: The Royal Tour’ on Broadway. Her television credits include the legendary ‘A Night on Mount Edna’ and ‘The Dame Edna Experience’ with notable guests including Cher, Robin Williams and Sean Connery, each interviewed in her own inimitable style.

Dame Edna Everage said: “I am delighted to be making my pantomime debut and starring as the Saviour of London in Dick Whittington. Being a stranger to pantomime I am looking forward to all the fun and frolics and meeting all of you lovely little possums of London, but most of all, the thought of guiding Dick Whittington to become Lord Mayor of London thrills me. I did the exact same thing for Boris Johnson not long ago”.

Sam Attwater
Sam Attwater trained at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts and is best-known for his role as Leon Small in Eastenders and its subsequent spin-off Eastenders: E20. No stranger to the stage he has appeared in the musical Tonight’s the Night in the West End and was a contestant on the sixth series of ITV1’s Dancing on Ice. Sam wowed both the judging panel and viewers and was crowned the show’s winner before embarking on the Dancing on Ice live arena tour alongside Torvill and Dean. In January of this year he released his debut E.P. Breaking Boundaries. Sam will play the title role of Dick Whittington.

Nickelodeon and ITV television presenter Anna Williamson will star alongside Sam as Alice Fitzwarren. Starting her presenting career at the age of just 17, she quickly moved through the ranks and has since presented for the Disney Channel, Five's Milkshake, CITV and GMTV Kids ‘Toonattik’. She now regularly presents on Nickelodeon and ITV’s morning show Daybreak.

Anna Williamson
Dick Whittington will also feature Eric Potts as the hilarious panto dame Sarah the Cook. Best known for his recurring role as Diggory Compton in Coronation Street, Eric is also a highly sought-after panto dame having spent the last 17 festive seasons appearing in pantomime. Eric has also written and will direct this production of Dick Whittington.

Another first for New Wimbledon Theatre’s pantomime, this year’s production will also feature ground-breaking 3D effects courtesy of Terry the Turtle who will whisk theatregoers away on a magical underwater adventure as Dick Whittington sails the seas.
