Sometimes taking a gamble pays off. At the age of sixteen, singer-songwriter Iman decided to leave home to build a career in music. Her then hometown of Hounslow was hardly an inspiring hotbed of creativity, while her family simply couldn’t comprehend her dream.  Now, just a few years later and against all odds, Iman’s ambitions have almost been realised as she puts the finishing touches on her debut album.

Iman’s devotion earned its rewards. Gilles Peterson recognised her talent and featured her on his acclaimed Brownswood Bubblers album concept. Iman’s songs also transcended their humble roots: one of her compositions was selected for the winner of Italy’s X-Factor series, another earned a similar selection for Germany’s Pop Idol.

Inspired by artists as varied as Lauren Hill, Akala, Adele and Joni Mitchell, Iman is fiercely individualistic: a singer-songwriter who fuses her captivating melodic tendencies with twisted soul inspired by the cultural mass of London life. Having recently worked on material for her debut album with an enviable list of talent including Jim Duguid (Paulo Nutini) John Fortis (The Noisettes, Razorlight) Jim Irvin and Julian Emery (Lissie) and Ed Sheeran, Iman’s initial gamble now looks like the decision of a lifetime.

Team Inspire October 3, 2011  ''It’s not often that I get to cover someone that I am absolutely blown away by, but singer/ songwriter Iman did just that. I do the usual bit; read the PR blurb (yeah she sound interesting), follow her on Twitter (she’s got some things to say) and then I YouTube her. OMG, this girl is amazing!!!''
''IT may be the moniker of David Bowie’s missus but Iman is also the name of an up-and-coming artist who is set for success.
Currently working on an album, the unsigned singer/songwriter has three songs on her YouTube channel, including new song Build It All Back, I Hold The Stars and Only You – a track that was written with Ed Sheeran.'' Pillow Magazine

''Her voice hooks ears without any of the glossy-image promises and pop-obligations of other successful UK female artists and Only You develops well with a prominent bassline toward the latter half, which only serves to punctuate and compliment Iman's tenderness.'' This is Real Music
