WORLD PREMIERE

Father and son perform the true story of a remarkable family secret
CAMDEN PEOPLE’S THEATRE, 10TH TO 28TH JANUARY 2012

Devised and Performed by Tom and John Frankland | Directed by Jamie Wood

Double Scotsman Fringe First Award winner Tom Frankland performs this extraordinary tale alongside his father John Frankland, inspired by the discovery of suitcases full of letters written by his grandparents that revealed far more than they could possibly imagine about their family lineage. Father and son consider the lives of a couple who lived through two world wars and kept a secret with profound implications hidden from them both for decades, only discovered while reading the letters as they researched material for their first performance together.

This is the first production of Camden People’s Theatre’s new Artistic Directors Brian Logan and Jenny Paton.

Tom Frankland is a theatre-maker and performer. Recent collaborations include Laura Mugridge’s Running On Air and The Frequency D'ici’s Paperweight. Both productions were awarded Scotsman Fringe First Awards at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and toured nationwide. Tom’s acted with companies including WildWorks, Chris Goode & Co, Stuff & Nonsense Theatre, The Cornish Theatre Collective, The Sticking Place, The Rose Theatre and Strangeface. Since 2007 he has been a regular performer for Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre’s Read Not Dead company.

John Frankland is a retired Drama teacher and multi-award winning director and performer. Recent ventures include the development of Kernow Youth Theatre and productions of Six Characters in Search of an Author and Vampire Story (staged in supermarket car parks across Cornwall). John recently collaborated with the Hall for Cornwall for their Mini-Malism project and is currently working with Feast and Falmouth Town Council to create five new pieces of theatre to be performed inside high street shops during the Christmas period.

Jamie Wood has worked with numerous theatre companies to devise performances, including Chris Goode (Longwave, Homemade, Escapology) and Petra’s Pulse (Aegean Fatigue, Donkey Shadow, Drinking the Dawn, Two Feet High in the Sky). His work has recently been seen at the British Council showcase in Edinburgh, at the Shunt Vaults in London and across the country on several national tours. Recent work as a director include Uniformation Day with Fool Proof and A Corner of the Ocean with Jammy Voo.

Camden People’s Theatre (CPT) is a unique space that supports the creation and presentation of innovative contemporary theatre and live art by emerging and established artists. CPT has supported Tom Frankland to create and present his work with The Frequency D’ici and Laura Mugridge and is pleased to welcome his father into the CPT fold.
