ANNA CALVI nominated for British Breakthrough at BRIT AWARDS 2012

ANNA CALVI

NOMINATED FOR BRITISH BREAKTHROUGH AT BRIT AWARDS 2012

Domino are very pleased to announce that Anna Calvi has been nominated for a BRIT Award in the category of British Breakthrough for her debut, self-titled LP.

Released in January of last year to great worldwide critical acclaim, Anna’s debut was co-produced by Rob Ellis and recorded in London and France, and is an astonishingly confident record showcasing the unique strengths of her songwriting, singing and guitar playing. The ghosts of Nina Simone and Maria Callas lurk in the corners of Calvi’s muse, as does the classical romanticism of Ravel and Debussy, a set of disparate influences informing her thoroughly unique and modern music.

Since the album’s release, Anna has toured extensively, building up a loyal and steady following around the globe. Named as one to watch in BBC’s Sound of 2011 poll, Anna Calvi’s eponymous record was later nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and featured in many end of year lists. Anna was also this week the UK winner at the European Border Breakers Awards 2012 which took place in Groningen, The Netherlands. The awards highlight the success of ten debuting European artists in terms of album, radio plays and tour sales outside of their home territory.

I’m very honoured to be nominated for the Breakthrough Award. It was a real surprise, and I am very much looking forward to the night.” – Anna Calvi

The BRIT Awards will take place in London on 21st February.
