‘Farmer & His Gun’ EP

Following the incredible success of his Top Ten debut solo album ‘Young Pilgrim’, Charlie Simpson is set to release a brand new EP - ‘Farmer & His Gun’ on March 25th. To accompany the release, Charlie has today unveiled a video made by acclaimed animation director Alice Dupré who’s previous work includes ‘Scott Pilgrim vs The World’ and ‘Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang’. Charlie says, "I met Alice via a friend of mine Corrin Hardy, who is a film maker and has worked on some Fightstar videos in the past. I loved how she totally understood the sentiment behind the track, so we got talking about her using her animation skills on it. A big influence on the idea was Watership Down which is a total classic".

The EP will contain four tracks, including a re-recorded version of 'Farmer & His Gun', the original home recorded demo, ‘Barricades Of Heaven’ (Jackson Browne cover) and ‘Lost’. Available as a digital download, CD and two 7” Vinyls, the EP also coincides with Charlie's UK tour and biggest solo show to date at London’s Koko on March 22nd. The live arena perfectly showcases Charlie’s strength as a musician, songwriter and performer. October 2011 saw him sell out a number of dates including London’s Islington Academy. This month sees Charlie play shows in Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh to name but a few, and he then heads over to Austin’s SXSW Festival. A full list of dates is below.

2011 was a stellar year for Charlie. His single ‘Cemetery’ was selected as the iTunes Single Of The Week and the lead single from the album ‘Down Down Down’ was rapturously received by Charlie’s fans, including Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton who selected it as her ‘Record Of The Week’. Charlie also made numerous TV appearances including performing on ITV’s Daybreak, Channel 4‘s Hollyoaks Music Show and Channel 5’s OK TV. His music videos have gained over 2 million views on YouTube, including the video for ‘Cemetery’ which sees Charlie assaulted by low flying fruit!

‘Young Pilgrim’ saw Charlie join forces with acclaimed producer Danton Supple (Coldplay, Doves) to record the album, and the result is an accomplished 12 track record that emanates vintage warmth and whose luscious melodies and occasional imperfections lend it a vibrant character and earnest charm.
