MUNICH - JUST LIKE YOU
MUNICH are a five piece indie band from Brighton best known for their “loud sawing anthemic indie pop” sound. After a busy year touring and headlining festivals they have finally produced a five-track demo. Having already received high praise from the likes of XFM (“MUNICH are great and just what British music needs”), they have decided to release their latest track Just Like You as a FREE DOWNLOAD!
Just Like You is definitely a festival headline track with its pop style guitars and edgy rock-like vocals. The guitar before the vocals enter in the introduction is fun and flirty, and really sets the song up with a feel-good summer vibe.
The lyrics hold the message “I only ever want to be you, just like you” – and I read this as a song questioning authenticity – whether artists can be unique now a days without being forced to imitate others. Perhaps this is too deep an interpretation, but I think it works well, particularly with a song that tries hard and succeeds on being different.
I particularly like the hand claps/finger snaps that appear throughout the track and are echoed cleverly by the drummer. There are high-energy moments that are catchy and upbeat, but there are also cleverly placed ‘down-time’ parts that really stand out. The chorus is catchy and the guitars are layered brilliant – there is always something interesting going on in this track to listen to. Structurally it’s well put together and I think it’s a fantastic soundtrack to accompany a long drive.
I am normally, suspicious of bands offering ‘free downloads’, but I was genuinely surprised by the quality MUNICH are preparing to give away with Just Like You. It’s a great feel-good summer track, which deserves to do well – I love a bargain and for a free download I would definitely recommend you snap it up now and give it a go!
