Review: Torvill and Dean's Dancing On Ice Live Tour 2012 - Wembley Arena, London

Torvill and Dean's
Dancing On Ice
Live Tour 2012
Wembley Arena

Tuesday 17th April: Torvill and Dean's Dancing On Ice Live Tour skated it's way into a packed Wembley Arena, and with it came a dazzling display of quite remarkable skating at times.

The show opened with five pairs of professional skaters taking to the ice, to herald the welcome of our hosts Torvill and Dean, who are quite simply breathtaking to watch, on this occasion to the tune 'Edge Of Glory'. After this, the show gets going into the TV format we all know and love. Eight pairs of celebrity skaters, dancing to win the audience and judges vote to be crowned winner for the afternoon.

Jennifer Ellison
The Ice Panel judges keeping an eye on proceedings today were Karen Barber, Kyran Bracken and Christopher Biggins. First onto the Ice was last years champion Sam Attwater with Brianne Delcourt, skating to 'Moves Like Jagger'. With sparkly black shirt for him, and skimpy silver bra and leggings for her, it was a feast for the eyes, and even more crucial was the 'Headbanger' move at the end of the routine, how they don't bash their heads whilst being swung around at low level is beyond me!

Chemmy Alcott and Sean Rice were up next, really good routine to 'Stronger', followed by Sugababe Heidi Range and Andrei Lipanov, who danced along to 'Push The Button', with a fantastic high lift at the end.

Huge crowd pleaser Chico was up next with Jodeyne Higgins. Well, all the women in the audience were fixed on Chico, who wore no top, flexing his muscles to 'Sexy and I Know It'. A good routine followed by an even better one from Jennifer Ellison and Daniel Whiston, whose spins are jaw dropping.

Corrie's Andy Whyment adds a bit of humour to proceedings, who still skates well, but not up to the quality of the rest of the field, but I must add, it was my favourite routine. Andy is a fun, colourful character, and partner Vicky Ogden is first class dancing to The Proclaimers 'I won't Walk 500 Miles'.

Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter and Matt Evers were next with a sizzling display of ice dancing to Beyonce's 'Crazy In Love, again the headbanger move proving popular. Finally it was this years champion Matthew Wolfenden, dancing with Nina Ulanova to Michael Jackson's 'The Way You Make Me Feel'. A great routine to finish off the first act of the show.

Matt Wolfenden
So in the interval, the audience can vote by texting in for who they would like to see perform Ravel's Bolero at the end of the show, and the top 5 pairs you get to see dance again, then the final 2 pairs dance the Bolero and the judges decide the winner - today it was Matt Wolfenden.

This is all interspersed in the second haf of the show with pairs of professional dancers skating together, a few more routines from Torvill and Dean, and even a team event from the celebrities.

A very enjoyable show, fantastic skating to be seen and it is well worth seeing if you are a fan of the hit TV show or not.
