Leanne Mitchell

signs to Island Records
Debut single, ‘Run to You’ out July 9th

The nation chooses a real voice and real woman - 28 year old, Leanne Mitchell stole the show to be crowned The Voice 2012. With this she takes her first steps on the road to stardom by signing to Island Records.  Her debut single ‘Run To You’ is out July 9th.

Leanne Mitchell, from Lowestoft in Suffolk, won the public vote to take her from humble beginnings as a former holiday camp singer to join the home of some of the strongest and most recognisable voices in music, including her mentor Tom Jones, fellow judge Jessie J, Amy Winehouse and Bob Marley.

In a Cinderella tale of an ordinary girl with no ‘stage school training’ about to embark on an exciting future, it’s clear that Leanne’s powerhouse voice and ‘girl next door’ persona resonated with the British public to see her annointed as The Voice UK 2012.

Mitchell first impressed the judges in the blind audition stage of the show when she sang Beyonce's ‘If I Were A Boy’. During the finals she delivered awe inspiring performances of ‘It's A Man's Man's Man's World’ by James Brown and ‘Run To You’ by Whitney Houston.  She also sang ‘Mama Told Me Not To Come’ by Eric Burdon and The Animals in a duet with Sir Tom Jones, a song he had previously covered with the Stereophonics.

The Voice UK’s ratings doubled for Leanne’s victory, with Saturday night’s final being watched by an average of 7.14 million - peaking at 8.7 million for the announcement of Leanne Mitchell as the winner.

Leanne’s debut single ‘Run to You’ is released on July 9th and available now on iTunes:

Leanne says, ‘It feels incredible to have won The Voice UK 2012, I never thought that this could be possible.  To be joining Sir Tom Jones at Island records is such a huge achievement for me.  Thank you to everyone who voted and supported me.  I feel overwhelmed and excited for the future.’
