Gig Review: Lady Antebellum - Clyde Auditorium, Glasgow ✭✭✭✭✭

Lady Antebellum have been taking the UK by storm since Need You Now hit the radio and seeing them live it's easy to see why this country group have been such a hit. Country music doesn't have the same size of market here in the UK but Lady A has been welcomed here with open arms.

Formed in 2006, Lady A is Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott. The Own the Night tour is supporting their third studio album of the same name and also sees Lady A supporting the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen, at Hard Rock Calling this weekend.

Kicking off their set at Glasgow's Clyde Auditorium with We Owned the Night, the delighted crowd instantly leapt to their feet and the whole auditorium pulsed with their enthusiasm reflected by the band.

Charles bounded across the stage with limitless energy and the crowd lapped up every second as the set gathered pace. Hillary’s incredible voice seems infinite and she owns the stage in killer heels, the trio topped off by the multi-talented Dave on numerous instruments it was clear that no one would be going home disappointed tonight.

What sets Lady A head and shoulders above other bands is the camaraderie that gel this talented trio together and envelops the whole audience in their world. The chemistry between Charles and Hillary sizzles and takes the audience on the journey of each and every song. It’s impossible to take your eyes from the stage as the drama of the lyrics unfolds onstage and enraptures the audience. Wanted You More and Just a Kiss set the temperature in the building rising as Charles and Hillary orbit around each other. Meanwhile Dave switches from mandolin to piano to acoustic and electric guitar shining at each.

Mid-way through the set, the pace was slowed and we were treated to stripped back acoustic songs, where Charles was delighted to discover that the local audience knew Lady A’s older material as well as the more recent material. Finishing the evening with a fantastic encore of the much-loved chart success Need You Now ensured that the audience left delighted. There is no doubting the incredible talent of Lady A and I hope that the rapturous welcome they are receiving in Europe ensures that that they don’t leave us Wanting More for long!
