IDINA MENZEL announces West End and regional concert dates

Tony Award-winning star IDINA MENZEL will play one week only in the West End at London’s Apollo Theatre and regional UK concert dates in Edinburgh and Manchester in October 2012. 


One year on from her triumphant concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Tony Award- winning star of Wicked and TV's Glee, Idina Menzel will return to the UK. Idina will play the West End's Apollo Theatre for one week only from Monday 8th to Sunday 14th October, followed by regional UK dates at Edinburgh's Usher Hall on Tuesday 16th October, and Manchester’s Palace Theatre on Wednesday 17th October.

Backed by a 25-piece orchestra live on stage, Idina will sing songs from her diverse musical theatre and pop music repertoire, including a few personal favourites and some exciting new material. Idina arrives in the UK following an extraordinary US tour.

Idina is best known for originating the role of Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway, for which she received a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, and a Drama Desk Award nomination. She subsequently reprised the role in the in the original West End cast.

Idina received a Tony Award nomination for her debut Broadway performance as Maureen, in the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning hit musical Rent, and Drama Desk nominations for Manhattan Theater Club’s production of The Wild Party and Michael John LaChiusa’s See What I Wanna See at the Public Theater, for which she was also nominated for a Drama League Award. She played Sheila in the Encores! production of Hair and starred as Amneris in Broadway's Aida. Her Off-Broadway credits include the original production of Rent, and The Vagina Monologues.

Idina is also known for her television work, particularly her recurring guest starring role on Glee, in which she played Rachel Berry's mum and the coach of rival Glee club Vocal Adrenaline.

On film, Idina most recently appeared in Disney’s Enchanted. Prior to that, she was seen in the film of Rent, in which she reprised her role as Maureen, and Ask the Dust, opposite Salma Hayek and Colin Farrell. Idina's next film project will be Disney's newest animated feature Frozen, opposite Kristen Bell.

As a singer / songwriter, Idina writes and performs her own music, and has undertaken sell-out tours promoting her solo albums. Idina most recently released her first live concert album and DVD, Idina Menzel LIVE: Barefoot at the Symphony, recorded in Toronto on her internationally acclaimed symphony tour.
