TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD to launch Regent's Park Open Air Theatre's 2013 season

REGENTS PARK OPEN AIR THEATRE

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD WILL LAUNCH 2013 SEASON

RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN DEBUT AT REGENT’S PARK OPEN AIR THEATRE WITH THE SOUND OF MUSIC

Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has today confirmed that they will launch their 2013 season with Harper Lee’s American classic To Kill a Mockingbird, adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel.

Proving its success across every form, the 1960 novel was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, followed by the film adaptation in 1962 which won three Oscars out of the eight it was nominated for. The play will run from 16 May to 15 June 2013, and will be directed by Artistic Director Timothy Sheader.

Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre will also present The Sound of Music, from 25 July to 7 September 2013. This will be the first time a work by the hit musical-writing partnership of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II has been staged at the Open Air Theatre.

The full season of four productions will be announced in the Autumn.

Following a wonderfully successful Olympic fortnight which included over 10,000 advance tickets sold for £20.12, there are less than four weeks remaining of the Open Air Theatre’s 80th anniversary season, which includes productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by Matthew Dunster, and Ragtime the Musical directed by Timothy Sheader.

Priority booking for members opens on 9 October 2012, with public booking opening on 20 November 2012. Across the 2013 season, the theatre is also extending its BREEZE scheme for those aged 18-25 with over 700 preview tickets available for just £10.

Playing to full houses in New York, The Shakespeare in the Park production of Into the Woods, based on the 2010 Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production, is currently running as part of The Public Theater’s 50th Anniversary season at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park. Directed by Timothy Sheader, with co-direction by Liam Steel, the production has been extended until 1 September.
