THIS IS THE END (15)
In UK cinemas 28th June

Review by Christina Benneworth

This movie is by far the funniest movie I have seen in a long time, but definitely also the weirdest. ‘This Is The End’ is written and directed by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg (writer of Superbad, Pineapple Express), it stars Seth Rogan, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Danny McBride, Jonah Hill and Craig Robinson.

With the cast playing themselves, this movie is genius. It is possibly what makes this movie so funny, all the characters are more than willing to take the micky out of themselves and they overplay on the ‘rumours’ that the general public share on their individual personalities.

So what’s it all about? Well, Rogan and Baruchel are best friends, but with Rogan living in L.A. and Baruchel still living in Canada their friendship has started to grow apart. Baruchel has come to spend the weekend with Rogan, and Rogan has an extra special weekend planned, consisting of all of Baruchel’s favourite things. Rogan later on in the day suggests going to James Franco’s housewarming party, much to Baruchel’s dismay as he can’t stand Rogan’s new L.A friends. Eventually they venture to Franco’s new house where they are greeted with a full house of celebrities. Then to put it simply the end of the world happens.

I don’t want to give too much of the plot away and ruin the jokes, as you need to watch this movie for yourself. This film features some of the best cameos I’ve seen in movies, and a special mention goes to Michael Cera, whose cameo will literally have you in hysterics. Towards the end of the movie there is an extra special guest appearance, I’m not going to tell you who it is; you’ll know when you see it, the person appears with McBride and I personally will never forget it (hilarious). It is worth paying for the cinema ticket just to see some of these celebrities die.

This movie could have gone one or two ways – it could have become a self-indulgent film making it all about themselves and how amazing they are or it could be one of the best comedies of the 21st century, and thankfully it was the latter. ‘This Is The End’ is a great movie, definitely one to see with your friends at the cinema. Go and see it!
