Hyde Park

Sunday 14th July 2013: Finishing off the British Summer Time array of events at Hyde Park, this was possibly one of the hottest days of the year so far, so it was ideal to take a blanket, sit back, relax, dance, drink, be merry and enjoy the music on offer. And it didn't disappoint.

Eliza Doolittle looked ravishing on stage in her rather see through summer dress, singing some of her old tracks, Mr Medicine, Skinny Genes and Pack Up along with new single Big When I Was Little - a nice start to the afternoon.

Chic and Nile Rodgers were unfortunately dogged by sound problems - the FOH sound rig going down under the heat which meant we were without music for a while. But when it was working, the band were in full swing with classics such as Le Freak, I'm Coming Out, We Are Family, and a guest appearance from Simon Le Bon for Notorious.

The evening started to cool, and the gorgeous Jennifer Lopez made the stage sizzle. A variety of costumes, high energy dance moves and a stage awash with colour, dancers and boxing rings, JLO certainly knows how to put on a show and get the crowds dancing. Love Don't Cost A Thing, Jenny From The Block and Waiting For Tonight were my particular favourites.

Headlining was the magnificent Lionel Richie. With a huge string of number ones to his bow, this was non-stop singing along if ever there was any. Hits such as Easy, Endless Love, Sail On, Ballerina Girl, Hello and All Night Long were played to the partying 50,000+ crowd, and there wasn't a blade of grass left untouched.

A big well done to all at AEG for making Hyde Park a crowd pleaser of an event. The staging was great, the trees around the stage added a nice touch, huge video projections, good lighting rig and decent sound (when it worked). Let's hope they do this again next year, as it is well organised and a great day out for all attending.
