Gig Review: Leona Lewis plus support Soul II Soul - Kew the Music ✭✭✭

Leona Lewis
Kew the Music

Saturday 13th July 2013: Before I get to Leona, may I just mention that support act Soul II Soul were the highlight of the night - forty minutes of old school, ending on chart topper Back to Life  - ahh what a singalongadanceathon that was on this hot night.

Right, back to the headliner, and I don't know what it is about Leona Lewis. Yes, she can sing, her voice is smooth from going from low to high ranges, and she can belt out the top notes really well. But I think its her songs that let her down, which for me, results in an average and at times slow show.

Coming on stage dressed in a weird pinkish, long kimono, her avid handful of fans are in their glory down the front of the stage witnessing their idol up close on a summer's night. Me, I'm tucking into my juicy burger trying to enjoy the music, but I just can't! Maybe it's because I'm not a huge fan. Maybe it's because after seven years of trying to fathom out why she won Pop Factor X Idol, Leona is still trying to make something good out of bad songs. Some are okay, but a good majority are bland, dull and just not good to listen to at all.

I think the best of the night was A Moment Like This, the huge chart topping number one single from years back, and Bleeding Love was another good song of note. But that was it! nothing else stood out for me. An average gig, fans enjoyed it, and the picnic goers had music in the background to eat their sausage rolls to.

Good food stalls, good beer, shame about the songs.
