Gig Review: BST Hyde Park featuring Soulfly, Motörhead & Faith No More ✭✭✭✭✭

BST Hyde Park

Friday 4th July: We took to Hyde Park for another blazing hot day at Barclaycard present British Summer Time for a star studded line up of rock excellence.

With Soulfly, Motorhead, Faith No More and Soundgarden supporting Black Sabbath on the Great Oak Stage.

We arrived as Soulfly were on the stage, the band from Arizona took to the main Great Oak stage to open the festival, with a 7 song set. Kicking of the set with Prophecy and ending the set with Jumpdafuck/Eye for an Eye.

Motörhead  took to the Great Oak Stage and showed the mass of 56,000 people exactly why they are still going after all of these years, 38 years to be exact. With frontman Lemmy Kilmister having spent nearly year being at home due to a number of health issues the band are embarking on their European tour of different festivals. Motörhead performed a 9 song set, including one of their most famous tracks ‘Ace of Spades’.

With the stage now being transformed to what resembled a church setting and flowers of all variety covering the stage, Faith No More took to the stage dressed in all black and clerical collars. The California group who reformed five years ago showcased two new songs yesterday, the first new music since 1997.

The second new song saw keyboardist Roddy Bottum take lead vocals, a different song to their other material it had more of a southern rock/hip hop vibe going on, but definitely something to get excited about. Between songs I think it was Mike Patton’s comments that had the most laughs of the days, putting on some sort of Exorcist voice he calls out ‘Your mother sucks c**ks in hell!’ and ‘Have we got any f**king Holy Water?’. Faith No More even managed to add a Commodore cover of ‘Easy’ a great sing a long for the crowd. It was a special performance to be a part of.

A great day filled with sublime music, I won’t forget being able to watch rock legends in the best atmosphere.
