British Musical BURLESQUE To Get World Premiere At Jermyn Street Theatre

BRITISH MUSICAL "BURLESQUE"
America. 1952. The war in Korea grinds on as McCarthy’s anti-Communist witch-hunts reach their peak. Meanwhile, in a run-down Burlesque Theatre, popular comedian Johnny Reno is trying to keep a low profile. Blacklisted for not co-operating with the authorities, Johnny is rapidly running out of options. Until a chance to clear his name at once promises to save him and threatens to tear his world apart. When a country goes insane – someone has to make a stand. A tale of sex, politics, persecution and the birth of the culture of terror.
Burlesque, a gritty new musical with Book and Lyrics by Adam Meggido and Roy Smiles, Music by Adam Meggido, is to have its world premiere in a six-week season at Jermyn Street Theatre from Wednesday 9 November - Sunday 18 December.

Writer Roy Smiles is an award-winning comedian, author and playwright whose West End credits include Ying Tong, The Rat Pack and Bombing People. His recent hit Pythonesque was broadcast on Radio 4. His book Funny People was published earlier this year.
Director/Writer & Composer Adam Meggido is the award-winning creator of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical which has played in the West End, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and all over the UK and recently broadcast its first series on BBC Radio4. He is the creator of Britain’s only annual festival of horror theatre and Grand Guignol and is artistic director of www.thestickingplace.com, currently celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Producer Danielle Tarento recently produced Parade (nominated for eight BroadwayworldUK Awards and 4 Off West End Offie Awards) and the sold-out Company, both at Southwark Playhouse, and Noël & Gertie at the Cockpit. She is co-founder of the Menier Chocolate Factory and co-produced all in-house shows 2004- 2006, including Sunday In The Park With George, which received a West End transfer and 5 Olivier Awards.
