GILDED BALLOON announce Edinburgh Festival 2012 programme

Gilded Balloon

Bristo Square, Edinburgh

1 – 27 AUGUST 2012

The Gilded Balloon will present its biggest programme yet to celebrate its 27th season at Edinburgh Fringe in 2012. Announcing a stellar line up of old and new comedic favourites, theatre and cabaret must sees, and a kids programme no child or parent could refuse, 2012 won’t be the year to go out, but the year to go off!

From the 1st to the 27th of August throw yourself into Edinburgh’s greatest party and get on down to the Gilded Balloon.

Presenting more than one jewel in our sparkling crown, the Gilded Balloon have scoured the globe to present an array of dazzling treasures with EIGHT highlight shows in 2012.

One of the most talked about pieces of theatre to come out of the USA in the last few years, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY OF STEVE JOBS BY MIKE DAISEY starring Grant O’Rourke, joins the Gilded Balloon in an emboldened, passionate diatribe that will make you question what you thought you knew about one of the world’s most worshipped brands.

The man who can fill a tight white jumpsuit better than Elvis, CARL-EINAR HACKNER is back by popular demand in 2012 with a new show that is jam-packed with more silliness than ever before, CARL-EINAR HACKNER: HANDLUGGAGE.

In a sweet, darkly comic tale about how a tragedy and baked goods can bring a disparate family back together, audiences will have their cake and eat it too in the ‘A Play, A Pie and A Pint’ hit play SLICE BY MEL GIEDROYC.
Receiving 5 star reviews for its runs at the Tron Theatre, 2011 Edinburgh Fringe and premiere season at the Oran Mor in 2010 as part of ‘A Play, A Pie and A Pint’ series, CASABLANCA: THE GIN JOINT CUT will whisk audiences back to Morocco 1941 in this sublime homage to one of the classic films of all time.

After four sold-out seasons at The Fringe and sell out seasons around Australia in early 2012, Jordan Lee and Benny are back with a brand new hour of world class musical comedy in AXIS OF AWESOME - CRY YOURSELF A RIVER. If you have seen them before, see them again; they are all slightly older.

Winner of the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Award for Best comedy, MICHAEL WORKMAN – MERCY doesn’t shy away from ‘difficult’ topics, nor does it simply ‘toe the line’. Hilarious, moving and thought provoking, MERCY will be a hot ticket this year at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe.

MURDER, MARPLE AND ME! explores the salacious world of British film in the 1950’s and 60’s as the mystery behind the mystery of Margaret Rutherford and Agatha Christie is uncovered. A clash of the titan’s not to be missed.

Following on from sell out seasons in Australia, the Adelaide Fringe smash hit HOT DUB TIME MACHINE will have audiences dancing and booty shaking through all the dance moves of every decade. Kick up your heels and join the dance party in what is to be the Gilded Balloons late night spectacular at the acclaimed Nightclub venue.

And that’s not all! The Gilded Balloon will again host LATE N LIVE, presenting unadulterated comedy mayhem to tickle the fancy of every subversive night owl, and FOSTERS SO YOU THINK YOU’RE FUNNY?, the Gilded Balloon’s original and best new comedy competition. Returning to celebrate its 25th year in 2012, the SO YOU THINK YOU’RE FUNNY? baby is all grown up!
