LIVE PERFORMANCES FROM TAKE THAT, ROBBIE WILLIAMS AND PALOMA FAITH

Gary Barlow, musician, songwriter and producer, was honoured this evening with the prestigious Music Industry Trusts Award. The award, presented to Gary Barlow by his great friend Sir Elton John, was made in recognition of his services to British music and charity. Over 1200 guests attended this charity event at London’s Grosvenor House hotel, in aid of Nordoff Robbins and The BRIT Performing Arts & Technology School.

Gary Barlow said:

“I’ve been doing this for 22 years now, and the one thing that’s more apparent to me than ever before is how much I love performing. To be able to do it, I feel really lucky, I never want to turn my back on it. It’s so special when you get something like this, because it’s recognised within the industry. I’m a lover of this industry, I’d do anything to protect it, and when you’re given something from that industry, I’m honoured.”

Celebrities in attendance included Gary’s Take That band mates Mark Owen, Jason Orange, Howard Donald and Robbie Williams as well as fellow X Factor judges Nicole Scherzinger, Tulisa and Louis Walsh along with X Factor host Dermot O’Leary. Other celebrities included Mark Ronson, Taio Cruz, Kimberley Walsh and Alesha Dixon. Stunning live performances this evening came from Take That and Paloma Faith, who covered the Take That classic ‘Back For Good’.

In a video message recorded before he embarked on his Jubilee Tour of Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales commended Gary on all his charitable endeavours:

"Not only for my Prince's Trust and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, but also for Comic Relief, Children In Need and many more" and said "over the past 25 years, you have become one of the great stars of the British music industry and you are the very embodiment of that rare species a "National Treasure".

The Music Industry Trusts Award, now in its 21st year, has raised over £4 million for the two charities. Previous recipients have included Sir George Martin, Ahmet Ertegun, Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin, John Barry, Michael Parkinson, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sir Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue and last year, Jools Holland.

The Music Industry Trusts Award is sponsored by Spotify, PPL, S.J.M Concerts and Ingenious Media.
