BARRY HUMPHRIES' farewell show confirmed for London Palladium run from November - January
DAME EDNA TO WAVE GOODBYE
AT THE LONDON PALLADIUM
Variety’s Gigastar to play most famous Variety House
in the world!
West
End performances of Barry Humphries’ Farewell Show to begin on November 13th
Global
star and legendary
entertainer Barry
Humphries is
to transfer his FAREWELL TOUR to the London Palladium for a West End run from Wednesday 13th November
(Press Night: Friday 15th November). EAT PRAY LAUGH! will give audiences the chance to bid farewell to
Humphries, arguably Australia’s greatest entertainment export, whose creations
have brought him international acclaim and adoration: cultural attaché the Honorable Sir Les Patterson, Sandy Stone and, of course, the incomparable
Dame Edna Everage.
The London Palladium has played host to the
greatest stars that Variety entertainment has known, including Frank Sinatra,
Bob Hope, Judy Garland, Danny Kaye and Sir Bruce Forsyth. Now Dame Edna Everage
– the Gigastar of Variety! –will take her final bow at the iconic London venue.
Dame Edna today said, "I've been away from home too long possums, and my true home is
the London Palladium. Book now for the housewarming party of the century!"
Humphries, one of the world’s sharpest wits
and finest comic talents, has already taken his final triumphant bow to audiences
throughout Australia and New Zealand where additional performances were added
across the tour to satisfy the demand of more than a quarter of a million
adoring fans.
DAME EDNA is one of the greatest stars of
the last 50 years, winning a Tony Award for her Broadway show, “The Royal Tour”.
The “housewife superstar” has played the West End and Broadway on numerous
occasions, performing to packed theatres including the Royal Albert Hall at the
“Last Night of the Poms", and the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane as well as countless
performances for the Royal Family; has television credits including the legendary UK special
“A Night on Mt. Edna” as well as her own innovative chat show “The Dame Edna
Experience”; and has played to sold-out audiences around the world.
Act One of Eat
Pray Laugh! features gentle, grandfatherly Sandy Stone, perhaps
Humphries’ greatest creation, and the outrageous Sir Les Patterson – according
to Dame Edna “this is just a bit of
foreplay really before I make an orgasmic appearance in Act Two!”
Surrounded by spectacular sets and dancers,
Dame Edna promises to “empower” audiences as she meditates on the big issues of
loss, gender, climate change, gay marriage and ethnicity.
The tour of EAT PRAY LAUGH! will open at the
Milton Keynes Theatre on Wednesday 23rd October 2013 and play
Cardiff and Edinburgh, before transferring to the London Palladium. Dates have
now also been announced through Spring 2014.
This brand new show is directed by award-winning
Australian theatre director Simon Phillips, who directed the original Priscilla Queen of the Desert, with design by Tony Award-winning
Brian Thomson, who designed the original Australian and London productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and The Rocky Horror Show, as well as the
closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games.
EAT PRAY LAUGH! is produced by Paul
Dainty of The Dainty Group and James Cundall of Lunchbox Theatrical
Productions.
