Full Casting Announced For MATILDA THE MUSICAL at Cambridge Theatre London

FOUR YOUNG ACTRESSES PLAYING THE TITLE ROLE IN THE ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY’S PRODUCTION OF ROALD DAHL’S MATILDA THE MUSICAL ARE REVEALED  

MATILDA THE MUSICAL ORIGINAL CAST RECORDING NOW AVAILABLE FROM THE RSC SHOP 

The young actresses who will share the title role in the London transfer of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s world premiere production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical are Eleanor Worthington Cox, Cleo Demetriou, Kerry Ingram and Sophia Kiely. The production will preview at the Cambridge Theatre from Tuesday 18 October.

Born in Merseyside, ten year old Eleanor Winifred Worthington Cox trained at Formby School of Dance and Performing Arts from a very young age. Eleanor performed as part of the chorus in Bill Kenwright’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Liverpool Empire. She will make her professional West End debut with the RSC in Matilda The Musical.

Born in Cyprus, eleven year old Cleo Demetriou now lives in London. Cleo has been performing in the West End since the age of seven. She made her professional debut playing Gretl in The Sound of Music (London Palladium) and has recently performed alongside Alfie Boe and Matt Lucas in Les Miserables.

Twelve year old Kerry Ingram made her RSC season debut playing the role of Matilda in the original cast in Stratford. Kerry trained at Corona Youth Theatre and has appeared in numerous productions including Oliver! (Theatre Royal Drury Lane) and Beauty and the Beast (Theatre Royal Windsor).

Making her professional debut in Matilda The Musical, eleven year old Sophia Kiely was born in London and attends the Royal Academy of Dance.

The original cast recording of the RSC's production of Matilda the Musical, with music and lyrics by the award-winning musician and comedian Tim Minchin, is released on CD today. Recorded in a studio by the original cast from the sell-out season at the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre, the album will include 17 original numbers from the production, including When I Grow Up, Revolting Children and The Smell of Rebellion.

Three teams of eight young performers who will recreate the roles of Bruce, Lavender, Amanda, Nigel, Eric and the other pupils at Crunchem Hall Primary School are:

Thomas Atkinson, Jake Bailey, James Beesley, Ruby Bridle, Oonagh Cox, Jemima Eaton, Alicia Gould, Zachary Harris, Callum Henderson, Fleur Houdijk, Jamie Kaye, William Keeler, Lily Laight, Katie Lee, Isobelle Molloy, Jemima Morgan, Toby Murray, Alfie Manser, Lucy May Pollard, Annabel Parsons, Ellie Simons, Louis Suc, Jaydon Vijn and Ted Wilson.

The adult cast consists of Bertie Carvel (Miss Trunchbull), Paul Kaye (Mr Wormwood) Josie Walker (Mrs Wormwood) and Lauren Ward (Miss Honey) who are reprising their roles alongside Marc Antolin, Verity Bentham, Peter Howe, Michael Kent, Melanie La Barrie, Matthew Malthouse, Alastair Parker, Nick Searle and Emily Shaw who also appeared in the original production in Stratford.

Further adult casting includes: Matthew Clark, Leanne Pinder, Rachel Moran, Lucy Thatcher, Tim Walton and Gary Watson.

Matilda The Musical played to sold-out audiences at the RSC’s The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon for twelve weeks from November 2010 to January 2011. Roald Dahl’s magical story about a girl with extraordinary powers has been a favourite novel for millions of people across the world since it was published in 1988.

The new stage musical, which captured the imagination of young and old alike during its short run, is written by the highly acclaimed playwright Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by the anarchic Australian comedian, musician and composer Tim Minchin, and direction by Matthew Warchus.

The production is designed by Rob Howell, with choreography by Peter Darling, orchestrations, additional music and musical supervision by Christopher Nightingale, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker and special effects and illusions are by Paul Kieve.

The entire creative team have reassembled to create the London production.

Matilda The Musical is produced in the West End by the Royal Shakespeare Company with André Ptaszynski as Executive Producer.

This production was developed with the support of Company Dramaturg Jeanie O'Hare and the RSC Literary Department.
