Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers UK Tour July 2011

Live Nation & Rounder Records are pleased to announce that multi-talented Grammy® and Emmy winning actor/comedian/musician and bestselling author Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers will be Touring the UK in July,  in support of their June 13th release, Rare Bird Alert (Rounder).  Rare Bird Alert is a follow-up to his Grammy®-winning 2009 release, The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo (Rounder). Steve Martin will be joined by the Steep Canyon Rangers, who also toured extensively with Martin over the last year and are featured on the new album.

Rare Bird Alert features 13 new Martin-penned tracks produced Tony Trischka, as well as a live version of the infamous “King Tut”. Sir Paul McCartney and The Dixie Chicks also make special guest vocal appearances on the album.  Martin co-wrote two of the CD’s songs with the Steep Canyon Rangers. Titles such as "Atheists Don't Have No Songs"  show that Martin has taken a step further, combining his zany ideas into more vocals appearing on the upcoming album, alongside some very tight bluegrass instrumentals.

Steve Martin is a four-time Grammy® winner, the latest for The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo, which won Best Bluegrass Album (2009), in addition he won for his collaboration with Earl Scruggs on Foggy Mountain Breakdown (2001) and two for comedy albums Wild and Crazy Guy (1978) and Let’s Get Small (1977.) After playing on the Grammy® Award winning Foggy Mountain Breakdown with Earl Scruggs, Martin began writing a string of new banjo songs, some with lyrics and some as instrumentals which led to the making of, The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo which was released on Rounder Records in 2009.

Speaking about his recording experience Steve Martin said the following:
‘I came in as an outsider, so I didn’t know what the reception would be like, but it was very warm. We reached a lot of bluegrass people, and I think we reached a lot of non-bluegrass people, too’ - Billboard Magazine, March 12, 2011
