Gig Review: The Milk - Scala, London

Wed 4th April: The Milk stormed into London's Scala last night to play an electrifying set. The venue had a supercharged atmosphere, as The Milk are quickly earning a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting live bands. They were even nominated for Best Breakthrough Artist at the UK Festival Awards, going up against the likes of Bruno Mars and Jessie J.

The 4-piece from Southend - Rick Nunn (lead vocals/guitar/keys), Mitch Ayling (drums/vox/keys), Dan Legresley (lead guitar/vox) and Luke Ayling (bass guitar) are joined on stage for the tour by keyboard player Dan Bingham.

With catchy tunes and pounding beats, The Milk have you dancing and singing along to their many riffs. One of my favourites has to be Nothing But Matter, taken from their forthcoming album Tales From The Thames Delta. It has a great ska/reggae feel to it, an instant hook with the chorus which you can't help but sing along to while jumping about.

More tracks from the album which were played tonight included  (All I Wanted Was) Danger, Everytime We Fight and Picking Up The Pieces. All great songs which are sounding fabulous live, along with others such as B Roads and Mr. Motivator.

With no breaks between songs, The Milk have a rare energy and chemistry that you don't often find on a stage, talking over the intro's to songs now and again briefly to say hello etc. This gives the gig a fast pace and is fabulous to witness, and an encore of their latest single Broke Up The Family ended up with Rick crowd surfing!

The Milk are one of the hottest bands out there this year, and are one's to watch. I can't wait for the album to come out for you all to hear it. Go catch them live when you get the chance, dates below.
