Claire Sweeney and John Thomson to star in UK tour of John Godber's SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN
CLAIRE SWEENEY AND JOHN THOMSON
TO STAR IN
SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN
Claire Sweeney and John Thomson will star in John Godber's classic British comedy, September in the Rain, which is set to tour the UK from 11 September.
September in the Rain charts the life of Yorkshire couple Jack and Liz through their annual summer jaunt across the Pennines to Blackpool, which has been a ritual for over 40 years.
It's the golden age of donkey rides, talent contests, saucy postcards, stripey deckchairs, ice cream, rolled-up trousers and knotted hankies. Follow the journey of Jack and Liz as they dip in and out of time recalling their first holiday as newleyweds, to their last, as senior citizens, sharing memories filled with tears and laughter, fish and chips and wet and windy promenades in September.
This poignant piece of theatre based on Godber's own memories of his grandparents and parents features Claire Sweeney as Liz and John Thomson as her husband Jack.
John Godber will direct this touching two-hander which is produced by Paul Tyrer and Jamie Clark for The Booking Office.
Claire Sweeney has most recently been seen on stage in Educating Rita, Legally Blonde and Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black's Tell Me On A Sunday. Her other theatre credits include Fosse, Chicago at the Adelphi and Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly. Her television credits include Brookside, Clocking Off, Merseybeat and Candy Cabs.
John Thomson is best known for his roles in the award winning Cold Feet and The Fast Show. His other television credits include Coronation Street, Waterloo Road, Men Behaving Badly, Playing The Field, Kingdom, Knowing Me Knowing You, The Applicants, Murder In Mind, Parents, New Street Law and he can be seen on Celebrity MasterChef this summer. John's theatre credits include Be Bop A Lula, Hobson's Choice and The Rivals at the Royal Exchange.
September in the Rain runs at the Malvern Theatre from 11-14 September before embarking on a tour to Southend, Darlington, Richmond, Brighton, Aylesbury, Bromley, Derby, Dundee, Chesterfield, Guildford and Glasgow.
