New musical based on the life of Susan Boyle - I DREAMED A DREAM - heads to The Kings Glasgow

ELAINE C. SMITH in
I DREAMED A DREAM
THE NEW MUSICAL BASED ON THE LIFE OF SUSAN BOYLE

The extraordinary story of Susan Boyle is brought to life in this thrilling new musical which boasts Susan’s unique endorsement. The show, which has received acclaim from public and critics alike since it opened in March of this year, has been touring the UK and now returns to Scotland.

Charting her climb from humble beginnings in the small Scottish town of Blackburn, West Lothian to a standing ovation at her audition for Britain’s Got Talent, through to her global superstardom, I Dreamed A Dream features many of the hit songs from Susan’s multi-platinum selling albums.

Leading an outstanding cast and orchestra and playing the lead role of Susan Boyle is Elaine C Smith, and playing several roles alongside Elaine is Edinburgh pantomime favourite Andy Gray.

The roles of ‘Pat’ and ‘Bridie Boyle’ (Susan’s parents) are played by James Paterson and Karen Mann; the role of ‘Lorraine Campbell’, Susan’s childhood friend, is played by Ashleigh Gray; Susan’s manager ‘Andy Stephens’ is played by Jeffrey Harmer, and Liz Ewing takes the role of ‘Mrs Johnstone’, Susan’s school teacher. All other roles throughout the production are played by Gordon Cooper, Anne Smith, Frances Mayli McCann, David Haydn and Alan McHugh, who co-wrote I Dreamed A Dream alongside Elaine C Smith.

On the universal appeal of the story, Producer Michael Harrison comments: “Susan is an inspiring woman and her story is an excellent one to tell - someone with a raw talent who surprises the world and overturns all the odds to make a new life for herself. It's got all the qualities of a fairytale, but with the added bonus of being absolutely true."

I Dreamed a Dream takes the audience through the experiences which have made Susan the woman she has become; the pain of lost love, the heart-breaking tragedy and loss of the anchors in her life, and being cut adrift in a lonely, threatening world, then finding strength and solace in her faith, to the life-changing experience of Britain’s Got Talent.

An orchestra, a multi-talented cast, and cutting edge multimedia technology, along with many of the well-known songs from Susan’s record-breaking albums, combine to tell Susan’s incredible story in this magical theatrical experience.
