LAURA WRIGHT new album 'Glorious' out on 28th May + FA Cup Final performance 5th May
LAURA WRIGHT
celebrates the best of British with new album
‘Glorious’
Released May 28th
Having already been selected to record the new Diamond Jubilee song, ‘Stronger As One’, Britain’s most exciting new soprano, Laura Wright celebrates the very best of British with her new album, 'Glorious' released May 28th through Decca Records.
‘Glorious’ will leave even the most faint hearted Brit brimming with patriotic pride; containing beautiful arrangements of some of Britain’s most cherished songs, old and new, Laura’s second studio album celebrates and commemorates the Diamond Jubilee.
Set to become the soundtrack to the Jubilee celebrations, 'Glorious' takes you on a symphonic journey through elegant tracks like the classic 'Born Free', packed with cinematic presence and stunning string scores, to the elevating horns and rhythm of sporting masterpiece 'Chariots Of Fire'. In a fitting tribute to HM the Queen, the lead single is the new Commonwealth Diamond Jubilee anthem, ‘Stronger As One’ - a track that does exactly what it says on the tin - awakes a sense of British pride with its strong melody and uplifting lyrics.
Laura has more recently set social networks alight with praise after a dramatic performance on ITV1’s ‘Dancing On Ice’ Final. Laura performed Ravel’s ‘Bolero‘ with operatic star, Noah Stewart - a track which has now been included as a bonus track on the album.
Currently studying opera at the acclaimed Royal College of Music, Laura has sold over one million albums to date. One of the UK’s biggest-selling classical artists in 2011, she was the first female singer since Katherine Jenkins to reach Number One in the Classical Chart with her album, “The Last Rose”.
Having started her singing career at a very young age, her love for classical music stems from her desire to stand out from the crowd and prove that classical music can be accessible to everyone. You would probably be surprised to discover the likes of Drake, Mumford & Sons, David Guetta and Labrinth on Laura’s iPod playlist but these eclectic tastes scratch just the surface of a classical artist with broad horizons. Laura is also an extremely accomplished sports person, having trained to county level in hockey, tennis and javelin at College. Now concentrating on her music career, Laura continues to feed her love of sports by raising money for charity in running and cycling events. Last year she cycled to Paris for the Royal British Legion and has completed the London and Venice marathons, all while recording her album. Laura is also very proud to announce that she is the official English Rose mascot for the English rugby and will be singing at all the internationals this autumn.
Laura's used to a challenge, 18 months ago she was told that a Number One album was maybe a bit too ambitious, but she proved them wrong. If anyone can take an album full of much loved British classics, make them her own while injecting something altogether more youthful it's this incredibly talented young soprano.
2012 looks set to become a monumental year for Laura, who beyond the Westminster Abbey and Dancing On Ice Final performances, has just completed a UK tour with acclaimed tenor Alfie Boe, was also the first soprano to perform at the Olympic Stadium (March 31st) and will be joining Russell Watson on the Queen’s Jubilee tour from May 31st.
Laura will also be performing the national anthem at the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on 5th May.
With such a sensational singing ability and more than a handful of once-in-a-lifetime endorsements, Laura has her eyes set on making it two years in a row for the record books; just don't tell her it's a little bit too ambitious...
