Album Review: The Milk - Tales from the Thames Delta ✭✭✭✭✭

The Milk

Tales from the Thames Delta

The Milk are lead vocalist Rick Nunn, brothers Mitch and Luke Ayling, and Dan Le Gresley. Together, their sound is obviously heavily soul-influenced, but it’s a modern, muscular take on the classics, which has assimilated the passion of rock ‘n’ roll and the fluidity of hip hop. The end result, ‘Tales from the Thames Delta’, is an infectious and eclectic debut album, as inspired by the taut go-to rhythm sections of The Roots as it is the seamless flow of Beastie Boys’ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ (the band’s favourite record).

What I love about this album is that it is fresh new writing, with incredibly catchy songs such as the huge hit Every Time We Fight, the sublime (All I Wanted Was) Danger and latest single Chip The Kids. With 11 tracks on this album, there isn't a gap in between songs, they intertwine with various sound effects, beats and remixes which seamlessly blend into the next track, this album is a thing of beauty!

One of my favourite tracks has to be Nothing But Matter, with its reggae and ska influences, enigmatic singalong chorus, accompanied with steel drums in the background, its a belter of a song.

If you haven't seen these guys live yet, head down and see them as soon as you can, and grab a copy of this rather brilliant album, it's going to be huge.

Tales from the Thames Delta’ will be released on 3rd September. The release will follow a summer of festival and headline dates, and precedes the band’s biggest headline show yet at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire on the 29th November.
