A double bill of new musical theatre: 'Some Small Love Story' & 'Beulah' to tour the UK
Hartshorn – Hook Productions are proud to present a national tour double bill of new musical theatre penned by The Flanagan Collective’s Alexander Wright – acclaimed 4-handed boutique piece Some Small Love Story and Beulah, featuring original folk music and puppetry.
Some Small Love Story opened at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011 to overwhelming critical acclaim and public approval, Beulah did exactly the same in 2012. Writer, Alexander Wright has developed two deceptively simple, beautiful musicals that will whisk you away on a magical journey, tugging at your heart-strings and tear-ducts.
Some Small Love Story made its name as a delicate and spellbinding new piece of musical theatre and was nominated for Musical Matters’ BEST LYRICS award and listed as one of The Stage’s Must-See productions.
Under the direction of BAFTA award-winning Noreen Kershaw (credits inc Lowry Theatre’s Fireflies, Coronation Street, Shameless) Some Small Love Story embarks upon its first national tour. Two halves of the same whole; this touching and honest tale of passionate love and searing heartbreak, entwines delicate storytelling with captivating music by Gavin Whitworth. This production stars Shameless’s Samantha Siddall with piano by renowned folk musician and Welsh BAFTA Nominee Ryland Teifi.

“What is now proved was once only imagined” William Blake
Beulah explores how we understand time, space, dreams, reality and what happens after life. Inspired by William Blake, Total Theatre Award Nominated Beulah challenges how we understand and make sense of the world, how we organise our lives. A beautiful, delicate folk tale which straddles the ocean between this world and the next; Beulah measures us in heartbeats and breaths, not just seconds and hours. A conversation about the very fabric we are made from.
Starring Jim Harbourne (Tortoise In A Nutshell) and Welsh BAFTA nominee and renowned folk artist Ryland Teifi. Directed by Tom Bellerby (Pilot Theatre) with original music by Jim Harbourne and Edward Wren.

Writer Alexander Wright said:
“It’s a real pleasure to be able to perform Beulah around the country. We feel very privileged to have had such an over whelming response to the show, and we hope we can carry on performing to such generous audiences. This tour will take us to extraordinary places, from two found spaces to a railway arch, from the back of a local pub and London’s West End. I’m not sure there are many shows out there trying to achieve such a scope and scale”
Some Small Love Story and Beulah will tour the UK from Valentine’s Day, Thu 14 February 2013 as a double bill.
