Bridgit Mendler

Ready Or Not
Out 4th March

Review by Christina Benneworth

So from across the pond we have another Disney actress that is crossing over to music, Bridgit Mendler a US singer-songwriter. She is releasing her debut UK single ‘Ready or Not’ on March 4th through Hollywood Records. Produced by Emanuel “Eman” Kiriakou and Evan “Kidd” Bogart, and co-written by Bridgit, the song samples The Delfonics classic track, ‘Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide from Love)’.

‘Ready or Not’ has been a massive hit in the US for the 19 year old, Washington DC native, and has already gone gold, selling half a million copies. She rounded of a successful 2012 in the US by performing on the semi-final of the The X-Factor USA to an audience of 12 million people. Plus the video to accompany the song has clocked over 20 million views.

Bridgit’s single ‘Ready or Not’, tells a tale of discovering someone special, on one special night but it also sums up Bridgit’s approach to life: “I wanted to write something that was empowering for girls,” she says of the track. “I consider myself to have been that girl sitting on the curb waiting for the world to notice.”

There are a lot of tracks these days that sound extremely similar, and it is rather annoying for a music lover to hear the same repetitive sound. Annoyingly ‘Ready or Not’ is a very catchy song, so after listening to the song a number of times it starts to grow on you. The song doesn’t have a lot of substance to it, with lyrics, such as; “I like your face, do you like my song?” However I can imagine Bridgit becoming very popular on the UK music scene.

The track is taken from Bridgit’s debut album ‘Hello My Name Is…’ which will be released in the UK later this year.
