Theatre Review: Midnight Tango - Phoenix Theatre, London ✭✭✭✭✭

Midnight Tango
Phoenix Theatre

The setting - Rosa and Carlos' run down Cuban feel bar, a rather sumptuous looking set by Morgan Large,  where you get the feeling when walking into the auditorium that you actually are in Cuba, with the haze trickling into the surrounds.

Rosa and Carlos bring a comedy element to the show, their love life dwindling, Carlos aiming to woo her back amongst all the dancing that goes on from a very strong worldwide ensemble of dancers. With a live band on stage (Tango Siempre) providing the ultimate backdrop of Cuban, Latin, Tango music with Miguel Angel providing vocals - the soundtrack is amazing.

But what would Midnight Tango be without the dancing? Well let me tell you now,  the dancing is just mind-blowing from all involved. The exoticness of the Tango, the raw energy, power, love and lust throughout the show provides us with, at times, jaw-dropping moves which are stunningly performed. The way the dancers are in time and together throughout is quite simply astonishing. The speed of the final piece had me in awe at the rate everyones legs were moving.

Strictly Come Dancing stars Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace are the choreographers of this wonderful piece of theatre, but I wouldn't say they are stars the show - the whole team involved are!
Everything from the set, band, ensemble performers, and even the lighting from James Whiteside is brilliant - the colours and angles used bringing out the lines and the definitions of the sexy and provocative dancing look lovely.

A wonderful evening of entertainment, and incredibly worthy of 5 stars! ✭✭✭✭✭
