Michael Winslow
Noizeyman
Udderbelly Festival – London
Review by Christina Benneworth
Wednesday 1st May – The man who makes a lot of noise returns to the upside down purple cow on the Southbank. Michael Winslow the guy you probably know as Sgt Motor Mouth Jones in Police Academy, but also; as informed in the intro of the show, Family Guy, The Simpsons, Spaceballs to name a few. Michael Winslow is outstanding and provides you with 60 minutes of genius, a masterclass on the art of ‘making noise’.
It was a tad bit exciting to see ‘the guy that makes the noises from Police Academy’; after having watched all of the Police Academy movies, he was certainly my favourite character. Winslow is clearly a master at what he does, he knew exactly how to work the audience, even handling the late comers.
From imitating Jimi Hendrix and providing the music to a scene in Star Wars, and somehow Winslow manages to give a sketch combining Snoop Dogg, Mary Poppins, Lassie and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He also revealed how to annoy cabin crew and get free items at a supermarket, and if used and caught Michael Winslow was now Chris Tucker.
Even though some jokes may have lacked a few laughs from the audience, you can’t help but be wowed. Winslow provides an energetic performance, and his own laughter is infectious. A great night full of laughs and an opportunity to see a true Hollywood legend.
