Thursday 9th May 2013: It's not every day you get to see a piece of outstanding comedy, but Nina Conti excels in her performance on many levels. Ventriloquism is a hard art to master, and when you do, well the stage is your oyster!
In this new show from Nina - Dolly Mixtures - we are introduced to some old and new characters. Starting off with her old chum Monkey, they get to know some of the audience, their names, what they do for a living etc and then it's on with the next character. We are introduced to her daughter, a dog called 'Killer', her handyman, her Gran and Grandad. All these characters are played out with fluent comedy, at times Nina veering off the script for even more audience participation which is extremely funny, and well done to those that go on stage and join in.
One of the funniest moments has to be when Nina gets a couple of 'volunteers' on stage, puts masks on them and controls what they say, and they oblige by doing actions and going along with it. If you haven't seen this before, it is hysterical - you may have seen Nina perform this sketch on Live at the Apollo on television.
With each character only coming on stage for around five minutes each, it is enough time to get to know them, but not too long to get tired of them. The whole show was approx fifty five minutes long, and it just flew by because of the pace, the laughs and the huge amount of talent on show. I can't tell you everything that happens, my lips are sealed about the finale, but go and grab a ticket as I know that most of the shows are sold out.
Well done Nina, a fantastic display of comedy talent, this is a must see show by any means.
