Meet and Tweet at the Fringe!
What happens when you try to meet everyone you follow on Twitter?
Well, in 2013 Declan Dineen set out to do just that. The resulting show is about the adventure that happened next. A story of drunken nights, awkward chats, going viral, Daily
Mail readers, Iranian TV, punks, politicians, magicians and 10,000 new
followers. A story about what it means to be social in the 21st century.
At the time Declan only had around 160 followers. It was doable. This was never meant to
be a show at all, just a fun project to work on and a chance to meet
some cool people. Then, when the story went viral in September 2013, when
Declan was just 7 people away from hitting his target, all that changed.
He gained 12,000 new followers! This
show is not just about Declan, but about the 150 people he met on his
quest: artists, politicians, magicians, DJs, punk rockers, directors,
bankers, bakers, wrestlers and doctors.
And it doesn't stop
now. #meetandtweet will continue to grow throughout the fringe. At the
start of every show audience memebers will be invited to leave their
twitter handle in a bowl – as they leave they take a random handle and
arrange to meet a stranger for a drink. Who knows what will happen?
