Songbird flies into Glasgow for one night only

SONGBIRD tells the story of the legendary singer, Eva Cassidy, and traces a remarkable, poignant journey from Eva’s humble beginnings to her untimely death at the age of just 33.

The show stars Sarah Jane Buckley, known to millions from Hollyoaks, who performs Eva’s songs with incredible accuracy, capturing the raw emotion and power of this iconic artist. Press acclaim for her performance has been unanimous, including plaudits such as “she plays Eva to perfection”, “an amazing and mesmerizing voice”, “beautifully performed” and “she performs every song with expert precision”.
Sarah Jane is already one of the world’s leading Eva Cassidy performers and has spent years perfecting the ‘Eva’ sound and putting together this exciting concert. “I wanted to bring her truly beautiful arrangements to life and also give the audience a sense of this fascinating woman”, she says. “When I first heard Eva on Terry Wogan’s radio show, her voice stopped me in my tracks. Her vocal range and emotional effect was spellbinding and the rest of the country, I was hooked”.

Sarah Jane is most recently known for playing Kathy Barnes in Channel 4’s hit TV soap Hollyoaks. Last year she played Liz in John Godber’s play September in the Rain and she also starred alongside Toyah Wilcox in the hilarious hit comedy Hormonal Housewives. But Sarah says her most challenging and exciting role has been playing Eva Cassidy to critical acclaim and packed houses in three national theatre tours.

If you’re a fan of Eva's or just discovering her for the first time, this is a chance to hear over 25 of her unique interpretations of well known songs including Songbird, Fields of Gold, Over The Rainbow and Cheek To Cheek . As a vocalist and guitarist, she interpreted melodies from a wide variety of musical categories - jazz, blues, soul, gospel, folk, country, and pop - infusing all of her songs with authentic emotion and a wonderful warmth, purity, and power t hat made them both moving and memorable.

With a fantastic onstage live band, this is more than a concert. It’s a real opportunity to experience the life and music of someone who has sold millions of records worldwide and who is one of the greatest voices of her generation.
