MAMMA MIA! brings the feel good factor to Glasgow this Christmas

The ultimate feel-good musical MAMMA MIA! will come to Theatre Royal, Glasgow this Christmas as part of the smash hit show’s first ever UK tour.

The musical will run from Tuesday 5 December until Saturday 30 December giving audiences plenty of time to catch the sensational production as it hits all the right notes during the festive season.

MAMMA MIA!’s month-long run at Theatre Royal follows the sell-out success of 2015’s Jersey Boys and last year’s The Commitments.

MAMMA MIA! is Judy Craymer’s ingenious vision of staging the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs with an enchanting tale of family and friendship unfolding on a Greek island paradise. To date, it has been seen by more than 60 million people in 50 productions in 16 different languages. MAMMA MIA! The movie starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, is the highest worldwide grossing live-action musical film of all time.

From West End to global phenomenon, the London production of MAMMA MIA! has now been seen by more than 10% of the entire UK population. It is one of only five musicals to have run for more than 10 years both on Broadway and in the West End, and in 2011, it became the first Western musical ever to be staged in Mandarin in the People’s Republic of China.

James Haworth, General Manager at Theatre Royal, said: “I’m delighted to welcome MAMMA MIA! to Theatre Royal next Christmas. It is a superb, fun-filled energetic show which will strike a chord with not just fans of ABBA, but with anyone who loves a feel-good musical.

He added: It’s great to see shows like MAMMA MIA! becoming a staple in the Theatre Royal’s festive programme. If this production goes down as well as Jersey Boys and The Commitments, our audiences will be in for a very merry 2017.”

Creator and Producer Judy Craymer said: “We are delighted to be bringing MAMMA MIA! To Glasgow for the 2017 festive season. With its sunny, feel-good story and the much-loved music of ABBA, it’s a perfect winter warmer for all the family.”

Tickets are on sale from Friday 27th January.
