ONE DIRECTION
What Makes You Beautiful
Single Released 11th September 2011
MOST ANTICIPATED POP ACT OF 2011 FINALLY UNVEIL DEBUT SINGLE
They are perhaps the most eagerly awaited X Factor act of all time. Teen magazines have been unprecedentedly barraged by fan-mail for months, TV studios mobbed by screaming girls and radio stations overwhelmed. With such a legion of adoring fans in rapture at the prospect of being finally in possession of their idols' work, One Direction's debut single surely cannot arrive quickly enough.
Dedicated to a girl who fails to appreciate her own beauty, 'What Makes You Beautiful' is the perfect introduction to 1D's sound. Frenzied and peppered by hooky guitars, the single is a power pop juggernaut which sets the scene for the boys' forthcoming debut album beautifully.
Written and produced by contemporary pop wizards Savan Kotecha (Britney Spears, Usher) Rami Yacoub (Nicole Scherzinger, Pink) and Carl Falk (Taio Cruz) the song was recorded in LA early in 2011 and instantly became a band favourite, as well as obvious first single.
Harry says: "We're so excited to get the single finally out there. When we were recording in the studio we knew instantly that we wanted this track to be our first single".
Zayn adds: "I think the album is going to surprise a few people. It's very individual to us. We wanted to make sure that it was our sound"
One Direction are Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik. All five boys auditioned for ITV1's X Factor in 2010 as solo artists. However, at the suggestion of guest judge Nicole Scherzinger they joined forces as a group, quickly becoming one of the competition's most popular acts of all time, finishing in the final three and garnering a gigantic fan-base along the way.
After wowing crowds across the country on The X Factor Live Tour, the boys signed to Syco Music and immediately set about recording their debut album with some of the world's most sort-after producers. The results of which will be heard in autumn 2011.
