Nicola Roberts kicks off the new year with the release of her new single ‘Yo-Yo’ on January 2 through A&M records.
The single was written by Nicola with Dimitri Tikovoi. ‘Yo-Yo’ marries classic pop lyrics (“don’t want to be the last to know, will it be a yes or a no?”) to a post-Dalston Ronettes vibe and a pulsing, demented electro breakdown.
“The song is about being in that position with a guy when you really don’t know whether you’re coming or going,” explains Nicola. “Being in that position can make you really vulnerable. It’s the dark, desperate and doubtful side of love.”
The CD single will be released with a live version of Yo-Yo and a demo version of her original album track, Sticks + Stones, a moving track which she wrote about her struggle with bullies.
‘Yo-Yo’ is the third release from Nicola’s critically acclaimed debut solo album; Cinderella’s Eyes. It follows previous singles, ‘Beat Of My Drum’ and ‘Lucky Day.’ Amazingly well received in the press ‘Cinderella’s Eyes’ was quoted in The Sunday Times as a ‘madly magnificent solo album’ while The Sun said it was ‘a winner’ and Glamour calling it an ‘incredible first album’
As well as being one of the hottest pop stars around, Nicola is as busy outside the recording studio as she is in it.
