Review: Set List - Soho Theatre, London

Downstairs at the Soho Theatre was the intimate setting for 'Set List' last night. After Selling out at Edinburgh Fringe this year, it has now come to London.

Aim of the show? A Whose Line Is It Anyway?-style challenge for stand-up comedy! Comedy pros are handed an original, never-before-seen set list of topics, partially written by the audience. From this they create spontaneous, original stand-up on the spot. Each new set list is projected onscreen, so the audience follows along and gets inside the minds of comedians to see how each crafts their own particular style of comedy right in the moment of creation.

Rich Hall
Well, I haven't laughed this much since I saw Lee Evans a few weeks ago.
Matt Kirshen was the MC for the night, introducing the performers in turn. John Robins starts the proceedings off, having the audience in stitches. His mind working overtime on the various topics suggested to him.

Rich Hall, veteran of this kind of stuff was hilarious, highlight being his anecdote of 'The Pea Leg Brothers' which turns out he read the paper wrong and he should have been talking about 'The Peg Leg Brothers'.

Dara O'Briain
Nick Doody was next up, again with brilliant delivery about various subjects, a contrast in style to Rich Hall, but just as funny.
A welcome sight to the line-up was Andi Osho, who rattled off her list rather rapidly, not much you can say about the subject 'AAAAAAAAAA'!

Dara O'Briain, needed no introduction, and his loud quick-fire comedy just stood out amongst the crowd, possibly the highlight of the evening with his very creative comedy mind.

Paul Foot was incredible, rambling on in the only the way he can, a very serious face with laughs all the time from the crowd, a pleasure to see on stage how his head thinks about the various topics thrown at him.

Paul Foot
That was it, or so we thought... a phonecall that he was in the area gave us an extra performer this evening. Phil Jupitus did a quick 'Set-list' and rounded the evening off in style.

A laugh a minute, very enjoyable evening. I suggest you get some friends together, grab a table and have a few drinks, while watching these comedy maestros at work in front of your very eyes.
Fantastic entertainment, you would be a fool to miss it.
