The upside down purple cow is back! UDDERBELLY FESTIVAL moooves in to London on 12th April

Southbank Centre and Underbelly announce the return of award-winning Udderbelly Festival in 2013

Underbelly and Southbank Centre announce the return of Udderbelly Festival and 30 shows from this year’s programme. The Udderbelly Festival is a collaboration between live entertainment company Underbelly and the UK’s largest arts centre, Southbank Centre and tickets for the shows announced today will go on sale at 10am on Friday 1st February. Now in its 5th year, the big upside-down purple cow has become an iconic fixture on London’s South Bank, with over 50,000 tickets sold in 2012, and many more visiting the festival site. The festival’s laid back atmosphere and packed programme of comedy, circus and family shows saw it win Best London Festival at the London Lifestyle Awards in 2012.

Udderbelly Festival will run from the 12th April to 14th July 2013.

Headline acts this year include, a three week run from the multi-award-winning The Boy With Tape On His Face, fresh from a critically acclaimed West End run, and Irish comedy legend Ardal O’Hanlon.

International circus troupe Pirates of the Carabina will perform Flown, a dazzling mid- air spectacular featuring a stunning clique of masterful acrobats, aerialists, dancers, musicians and daredevil stuntmen. They wowed crowds as the headline act at Glastonbury Festival’s Circus Big Top in 2011. Flown features circus artists from NoFit State Circus, De La Guarda and Footsbarn Theatre.
The family programme returns with firm favourites such as Jeff Achtem’s Slapdash Galaxy, Robin Hood and Comedy Club For Kids.

Other comedy highlights include Richard Herring, Abandoman, Doc Brown, Susan Calman, Festival of the Spoken Nerd, Nick Helm, Tony Law, Political Animal, Gina Yashere and many more.

More shows in the programme will be announced later this month.

And, of course, Udderbelly Festival is not just about the shows. The festival remains one of the best places to meet friends and socialise boasting one of the biggest outdoor bars in Central London. With everything from giant jenga to delicious, organic food from 2012 winners of the UK Street Food Festival, Laughingstock, Udderbelly Festival really has something for everybody.

The Udderbelly Festival is part of Southbank Centre’s Festival of Neighbourhood with MasterCard this summer from 4 May to 8 September. The festival will celebrate neighbourhood in all its meanings and explore what it is to have and be a neighbour. Communities who live close by and partners from across the UK and abroad will participate in creating the festival – from nearby Elephant and Castle in South London to young people from Pelhourino in Salvador, Brazil – with a diverse programme of events including poetry, discussion, visual arts, performance and art installations across Southbank Centre’s 21-acre site.
