Gareth Malone reveals brand new choir after nationwide search for young talent - 'Voices' out 4th November

Gareth Malone reveals brand new choir

•    Chart-topping choirmaster sought out the most talented young singers in the country to form his best choir yet

•    New album Voices includes guest vocals from Lianne Le Havas, Amber Le Bon and Guillemots’ Fyfe Dangerfield

•    Aim is to inspire the next generation of singers by developing a completely new style and sound-world for choirs

The secret is finally out. Following a frenzied few days of media activity, Gareth Malone today revealed the long-awaited line up of his brand new choir following a nationwide search earlier this year for accomplished young singers. As reported, not only has Malone assembled the country’s finest young talent, but the “UK’s most recognisable choirmaster” is describing new album Voices as a “watershed moment” for choral singing. Malone issued his call to arms back in April and the fruits of his labour can now be revealed.

The announcement follows a year of personal and professional triumph for Malone, after achieving a No.1 single and album with the Military Wives as well as receiving royal recognition in the form of an OBE. His popular BBC show “The Choir” has seen him take total first-timers to levels of extraordinary success and has led to a nationwide revival in community singing.

Renowned producer David Kosten (Everything Everything/Bat for Lashes/Guillemots) has joined Malone on Voices, which treads uncharted territory by mixing lush, choral textures with innovative and contemporary recording techniques. We were told to expect the unexpected, and Malone has certainly delivered on that promise. The first music to emerge from Voices is a new version of Guillotine from US hip-hop outfit Death Grips, and it is already causing a stir after Malone posted the track on Soundcloud. Full details of final repertoire are still being closely guarded but we can expect brand-new arrangements – from Malone himself – of modern classics, from the likes of Fleet Foxes to Alicia Keys.

Voices  is out 4th November
